Congratulations, Ariel! Hope you had a wonderful and easy birth. I am looking forward to hearing your take both on parenting the second time around and parenting a boy vs. a girl (I have a little man, too). Good luck and lots of love from NY!
welcome to the world sweet babe! i've been thinking of you both wondering what day he would choose to be born! you look great, areil! love the red nail polish sweet mama! big congrats!
oh word?! awesome!! congrats, ariel and welcome to the world, maximilian cosmo - yeah!! by the way, he's got a lotta spirit in that 2nd picture...you guys are gonna have fun together, i know it.
He's beautiful, and resembles you quite a lot, Ariel! I'm really happy for you--congratulations! I look forward to reading all about this experience somewhere. I'm due to have a baby girl in November. All the best, and once again, congratulations! --Karli
I never knew you were pregnant! I read "Breeder", and "Atlas of the Human Heart", where you remind yourself to "never do this again" as you are giving birth to your daughter. I have a 10 yr old, and am the same age as you- I was just wondering what happened to you the other day, and here you are, doing it again- it inspires me in a surprising way, to know that you had another baby! He's adorable, with his little "O" mouth, and you look great! Maybe, it can be done? Love, Caity
Hey super Mama, it's been years, but I'm thrilled you're still at it, and so beautifully. Congratulations! The real shocker to me, though, looking through your blog (which makes me think I really should get a grip on the blogging thing), is that baby Maia is going to college?!?! Back in the early hip Mama days she was, like, wearing sparkly jeans and cutting "articles" out for her own "zine." You made it mama, all the way through. You give me hope.
well i wrote this whole long smart loving post about how i can't believe maia is going to college (i remember her with sparkly pants and a fistful of 'zine making supplies from the early days of hip mama), and how great it is that you've got a new, beautiful baby, and how i've really got to get my whole blogging thing together because clearly it's so important and yadda yadda yadda. anyway, then i hit publish and it asked for my name and then poof it was all gone and i had to write it all over again which is like, such a huge pain in the a*s (is that how you do profanity in the blogosphere?) anyway. bottom line: congratulations and much aloha to you. not just for bringing the new baby into the world with love, but for being able to send the first baby out into the world with love, too.
Congratulations on becoming a mother again! Every time that motherhood seems to be more then i can bear, I re-read your books and realize that it's not easy for anyone else either. Knowing "I am not alone" is the most powerful tool I have when things are rough. Thank you for giving me that.
I'm a little late with my note, but congratulations, Ariel, and welcome to gorgeous Maximilian! Looking forward to meeting the two of you on the street around town one of these days. Or maybe at Wordstock?
Happy birth day Ariel! Maia must be missing you all so much now! When can she come home to meet baby bro?! It's truly a wonderful parallel with Maia embarking on her path of higher learning and you marinating in the miracle of life, new beginnings. Much love and aloha to all from Durham, NC
Yeah! Congrats!! Ariel, you were such an inspiration to me when I was all alone as a new mama and struggling to redefine myself. (I still struggle, but anyway...) I was so psyched to see that you were preggo again b/c I really wanted to read your take on mothering a little one these days as opposed to the early 90s. Can't wait! Coming to your blog is like a salve after reading the crappy comments on feministing.org about how bf isn't feminist. Of course, I thought of you and the whole "hip mama" thing. Enjoy your babymoon! Leah aka "Halfway Hip" mama http://halfwayhip.typepad.com
Congratulations!!!! Oh my, I am so happy for you and your family. My son's name is Maxamilian. Different spelling but said that same. Wow, one off to college and a newborn in the home. I bet you feel like you are really starting all over with mothering! You looked so beautiful with your pregnant belly, by the way. I can't wait to read the birth story (hint, hint)!!!

Maximilian, what a wonderful name. In high school, that was going to be the name of one of my future children. Didn't happen, but I still love it.

Such beautiful symmetry to the names and to the children as well. One an adult, one a newborn. One a yin, one a yan.
you've found balance, always, thinking it was yet to be acheived but not knowing you were headed towards it and already ankle deep in it.

And look. You did.
Congratulations! A beautiful, sweet boy. Wow.
